14th IFPE Congress
The uses of psychiatric epidemiology in improving population mental health

Welcome message from Prof Johannes Wancata

Dear colleagues,

Let me express my warmest welcome to you all to the 14th International Congress of the International Federation of Psychiatric epidemiology.

The main theme of this congress is "The uses of psychiatric epidemiology in improving population mental health". the congress theme explores how epidemiology work can positively impact mental health across various populations. Various societal changes such as increased mobility, new gender roles or economic burden influence people’s well-being. Psychosocial risk factors and biological markers as well as their interdependence are essential to understanding the aetiology of mental disorders. Psychiatric epidemiology is the key discipline for assessing and analysing all these developments..

On behalf of the International Federation of Psychiatric epidemiology I extend our sincere appreciation to the host of this congress, Professor Steffi Riedel-Heller, and her excellent organizing committee for their hard work in making it all happen. I am also indebted to the Scientific Programme Committee and the International Advisory Group for their invaluable contributions.

I am sure this congress will give numerous opportunities for us to change ideas and to learn from each other. Further, this beautiful city provides a beautiful frame for meeting colleagues.

Enjoy your stay in Leipzig!
